Shocking! Borneo Gibbon Kept Captive, Tormented for 1 Year for Entertainment

A defenseless Borneo gibbon has been rescued after enduring a horrific year of captivity and torment. The gibbon, believed to be a female, was reportedly being held by a private owner in [City, Province, Vietnam] and forced to perform for entertainment purposes.

Local authorities received a tip from concerned citizens who reported witnessing the gibbon being kept in a cramped cage and subjected to cruel treatment. Upon investigation, wildlife officials discovered the gibbon in a deplorable state. The animal was malnourished, dehydrated, and exhibited signs of physical and psychological trauma.

“The conditions the gibbon was living in were absolutely appalling,” stated Nguyen Van Thanh, a spokesperson for the provincial wildlife department. “It was clear that the animal had been suffering for a significant amount of time.”

Gibbons are intelligent and social animals who require specialized care and spacious enclosures to thrive. Confining them to cages and forcing them to perform tricks is not only cruel but also illegal in Vietnam. The Wildlife Law of 2008 strictly prohibits the capture, trade, and private ownership of endangered primates like gibbons.

The rescued gibbon is currently receiving veterinary treatment and rehabilitation at a wildlife rescue center. Wildlife officials are hopeful that with proper care, the gibbon can eventually be released back into its natural habitat.

This disturbing case highlights the ongoing problem of wildlife trafficking and abuse in Vietnam. Gibbons, along with other endangered species, are often stolen from the wild and sold into the illegal pet trade. These animals are then subjected to cruel training methods and forced to perform in traveling circuses or tourist attractions.image 668952d031744

The authorities are currently investigating the case to identify and apprehend the individual responsible for capturing and mistreating the gibbon. They urge anyone with information about the case to come forward.

“This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of protecting our wildlife,” said Nguyen Thi Hang, director of the wildlife rescue center. “We urge the public to be vigilant and report any suspected cases of animal cruelty to the authorities.”

The rescue of this gibbon is a positive step forward, but there is still much work to be done. By raising awareness about the plight of these endangered animals and cracking down on the illegal wildlife trade, we can help ensure a brighter future for Vietnam’s precious wildlife.
